Finishing-Weaving in Ends

Since we knit this sweater in the round and the sleeves from the top down, there are no seams to sew.

First, finish off the sleeves and the neckband.

Pick up a sleeve. Find the tail of the yarn at the end of the sleeve bind off. Thread a tapestry needle with the tail.

With the right side of the sweater facing you, the tapestry needle in your right hand, insert the needle under the first stitch to the left.

Pull the yarn through. Cross the yarn back and insert the needle under the last stitch on the right side. (The stitch from which the tail was hanging). You are making a figure 8. Go back and forth one more time.

Notice that it becomes difficult to differentiate where the last stitch and first stitch were. You have filled the gap.

Now, on the right side because the cuff will roll, insert the tapestry needle in and out of a row of stitches for about an inch. Try to pick up just a piece of the each stitch, in other words, split the stitch yarn.

Pull the yarn through and snip.

Repeat this procedure on the other sleeve, on the neck trim and at the bottom rib.

The final step is to weave the ends in each placed where we added a new ball of yarn.

Turn the sweater inside out. You will see the yarn tails.

Thread the tapestry needle with the tail on the right. Cross it over the tail on left an begin to weave it in and out of the purl bumps on the same row. Again, split the stitches in the fabric. Try to pick up only a piece of the purl bump with the tapestry needle.

Once you have woven and inch, snip the end. Do not pull tightly.

Thread the needle with the left tail and weave to the right.

Repeat with all the ends.

You are finished. Now for the finishing touch...blocking .
